The route

Minute by minute

The whole trip, hour by hour, so you know exactly what you're getting into before saying yes.

  1. Departure

    Corte Suprema 196, sharp

We meet at the building door and set off on foot. On time: the walk is timed so we arrive with breath to spare, not running.

  2. Transit

    On foot through downtown

We walk with a local host. It's a short stretch through downtown Santiago and you get to see streets you wouldn't walk on your own. No metro, no Uber, no waiting.

  3. Class · 90 min

San Diego 260 — class begins

Ninety minutes of Krav Maga. You train on the move: guard position, defences against grabs, basic strikes, how to get out of a situation and how to read it before it happens.

  4. Wrap-up

    End of class

It finishes at 8 PM. You'll walk out sweating and with your head somewhere else — it's an enormous physical release.

  5. Return

    Back to Corte Suprema 196

The host walks the group back to the building. If you want to keep the night going, the linear salsa class leaves from the same point at 8:20 PM (that's a separate plan).

Origin

What is Krav Maga?

Krav Maga is Hebrew and means, literally, "contact combat". It isn't a martial art in the classical sense: it's a self-defence system. There are no competitions, no ceremonial belts, no choreographed forms repeated out of tradition. Everything taught is there because it works.

It was created by Imi Lichtenfeld, a boxer, wrestler and gymnast born in 1910 and raised in Bratislava. In the late 1930s he organised the defence of the Jewish quarter against the antisemitic gangs attacking it, and there he discovered something uncomfortable: what worked in the ring did not work on the street. He built the system out of that difference.

He later emigrated to the Middle East, trained the Haganah and ended up as chief instructor of hand-to-hand combat for the Israeli army. From there it spread to police forces, security services around the world and, finally, to ordinary people.

  • Defend and attack at once

You don't block and then respond: it all happens in a single movement.

  • Natural reflexes

It builds on what your body already does instinctively, instead of fighting it.

  • Prevention first

The best technique is the one that avoids the problem: read the room, de-escalate, leave.

  • Under stress

You train tired and under pressure, because that's how it happens in reality.

Why here

Why it makes sense while travelling

You're in a city you don't know, on streets you can't read yet, with instincts that aren't calibrated. Ninety minutes of Krav Maga won't turn you into anyone dangerous, but it does change three concrete things: how you walk, what you look at, and what you do in the first second if something happens.

And there's a second, less solemn reason: it's a brutal workout. Pure adrenaline, it snaps you out of tourist mode and starts your Friday on a completely different energy. Plenty of people leave here and go straight out dancing.

The class

What you'll do in those 90 minutes

No previous experience is needed, no particular fitness, no background in any contact sport. The class is designed so someone arriving for the first time can follow the whole session.

You work in pairs and on the move: guard position, straight strikes, defences against grabs and holds, distance, and how to create the window to leave. All with controlled contact and at a pace that builds gradually.

Fair questions

What everyone asks

I've never done a contact sport. Can I come?

Yes. The class is designed so someone with no experience can do the whole session. Krav Maga starts precisely from the reflexes you already have, not from techniques you need years to perfect.

Will I end up hurt?

No. You train with controlled contact and in pairs. The idea is that you leave tired, not injured.

Do I need to bring gear?

No. Come in sportswear and trainers, that's it.

Can I do this and then the Friday salsa class?

Yes, and it fits perfectly: Krav Maga ends at 8:00 PM and the linear salsa class leaves at 8:20 PM from the same point. They're two separate plans, each with its own price.

What language is the class in?

Your host speaks Spanish, English and intermediate Portuguese. The class is taught in Spanish, but people of all languages attend and follow it without trouble: you learn by watching and repeating, not by listening to long explanations.

Is there an age or fitness limit?

Intensity is progressive and you can set your own pace. If you have an injury or a medical condition, message us on WhatsApp beforehand and we'll talk it through.
